Blending sci-fi superhero spectacle with the tone of a crime drama has always been a tricky balancing act. Superheroes are, at their core, crime fighters, but translating that into a compelling cop thriller rarely works as cleanly as it should. Many shows lean too heavily into spectacle, while others strip away the fantastical elements entirely.
